and to be seen

Meet Paramahamsa Vishwananda

What is darshan?

In the Hindu tradition, darshan means 'seeing'. Darshan is the experience of being in the presence of a Satguru, and being seen by them in return — a moment of meeting, offered and received. Each person who wishes comes before Paramahamsa Vishwananda. What people describe afterwards is harder to name....

3 parts of a darshan gathering

What happens at the gathering

It usually lasts a few hours and unfolds in three parts. You're welcome to participate in all of it, or simply be present for the parts you like

1

Bhajans

devotional singing

The gathering opens with bhajans, sung in call and response. You can sing along, listen, or simply sit with the music. No musical background is needed, and the words are provided.

2

Satsang

a teaching

Paramahamsa Vishwananda offers a satsang, a teaching rooted in the Bhagavad Gita, the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, and the lives of the saints. He speaks in English. No prior knowledge of the tradition is assumed.

3

Darshan

a personal encounter

Darshan is the heart of the gathering — a brief, personal meeting with Paramahamsa Vishwananda, of seeing and being seen in return. Each person who wishes may come forward; there is no preparation required.

At a darshan, you can

A darshan gathering has a few traditional elements

None of them are required — many people come and simply receive the darshan. Here's what's available if you would like to take part.

Bring a photo for someone you love

In the tradition, it's common to bring a photo of someone — a family member, a friend, someone who is unwell, and to hold them in mind as you come forward. Many people do this for their parents or children.

Bring a written question

You can write a personal question on a small piece of paper and hand it to Paramahamsa Vishwananda. There's no expectation of a written reply; the practice is in offering the question.

Bring something meaningful

Practitioners often bring small personal items — a piece of jewellery, a book, a deity from a home altar — for a short blessing. There is no fee.

Sit with what you've come for

Many people come with something on their mind — a difficulty, a hope, an open question. There is no script.
