Meet Paramahamsa Vishwananda
What is darshan?
In the Hindu tradition, darshan means 'seeing'. Darshan is the experience of being in the presence of a Satguru, and being seen by them in return — a moment of meeting, offered and received. Each person who wishes comes before Paramahamsa Vishwananda. What people describe afterwards is harder to name....
Paramahamsa Vishwananda is a Satguru in the Hindu bhakti tradition and the founder of Bhakti Marga, an international spiritual organisation and community of practitioners with members in more than 80 countries, dedicated to the path of love and devotion to God. Born in Mauritius in 1978, he displayed from a young age a profound absorption in prayer, devotion, and spiritual life.
3 parts of a darshan gathering
What happens at the gathering
It usually lasts a few hours and unfolds in three parts. You're welcome to participate in all of it, or simply be present for the parts you like
1
Bhajans
devotional singing
The gathering opens with bhajans, sung in call and response. You can sing along, listen, or simply sit with the music. No musical background is needed, and the words are provided.
2
Satsang
a teaching
Paramahamsa Vishwananda offers a satsang, a teaching rooted in the Bhagavad Gita, the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, and the lives of the saints. He speaks in English. No prior knowledge of the tradition is assumed.
3
Darshan
a personal encounter
Darshan is the heart of the gathering — a brief, personal meeting with Paramahamsa Vishwananda, of seeing and being seen in return. Each person who wishes may come forward; there is no preparation required.
